Houston has some tremendous barbecue joints. The latest one I have had the privilege to experience is The Pit Room near the Museum District. These guys are without question the real deal. Everything was outstanding. Surprisingly, the line was short. The service was great. Their brisket was immaculate. They have three kinds of sausage, including a venison and garlic version. Not many folks would even attempt something like that – and this one is not too gamey or too garlicky) and a spicy pork sausage with jalapeño and cheese (I’m a sucker for almost anything with jalapeños and cheese). They offer beef ribs every day. All their sides looked great. But since I love corn so much, I had to go for the elote – which was absolutely delicious! On top of that, they make their own pickles in-house and offer a bunch of condiments, including pickled onions, fresh jalapeños, and a few different sauces (not that any of the meat needs sauce). I am now a huge fan of The Pit Room. I just wish it were closer to my part of town. If you’re anywhere near Richmond and Montrose, just go. You won’t be sorry.
