I got to try some more top-quality barbecue – this time in the tiny town of DeSoto, a short distance south of Dallas off I-35E. Top 5 BBQ is some really good stuff. Their brand of barbecue was really tasty. The brisket had a really nice super dark bark and the fat was well-rendered, with great smoke flavor. The sausage was a deep red, with a great grind and some snappiness to the casing. I had to try the spicy sauce rather than their standard sauce – which turned out to be very good. For my side, I had to try the creamed corn, which was not overly creamy but still very tasty. If you find yourself anywhere near DeSoto, it’s very worthwhile to stop by.
